You provide the digital images and layout; we take it from there. “Raw” camera files are the preferred format for best results. You’ll receive professional color image files, saving you prepress costs and possible aggravations at press time. We can provide accurate CMYK proofs processed through our profiled RIP. Specific retouching requests are no problem. We normally prepare images to the final print size to properly sharpen/brighten them. Our proofs show the placed images in your picture boxes as they will print. Color proofs from our ProofMaster RIP are efficiently ganged with filenames beneath each image. Our proofer can simulate specific as well as generic printing conditions through the use of color reference profiles.

Other Photoshop tasks are available from Colorprep: general retouching, compositing multiple images, color changes, clipping path work, silhouettes, vignettes, background changes, realistic shadows, enhanced grayscale conversions, process colorizations, portrait enhancements, and so on.

Drum Scans — when image quality is important. Yes, we still do them!

Drum scanners record much finer detail by use of light-sensing photomultiplier (PMT) tubes. Slide scanners and flatbed scanners are limited by their use of charge-coupled devices (CCD). Drum scans are known for their clean noise-free shadow areas with excellent detail pulled from the darkest areas, even beyond what is visible under a loupe on a light box.

Transparencies are typically mounted in a fluid or oil bath during scanning, which helps create a very clean image. Fine scratches and other unwanted surface details are eliminated. For reflective scans, drum scanning has a clear advantage over flatbed scans in terms of reduced dirt/specks and absent or diminished photo surface texture. You can really see this in scans of heirloom photos for restoration with their years of dirt and unusual old textures.
